korean furniture museum

I have always been intrigued by the traditional architecture of asia, and the very exacting design principles behind them. Not to mention their amazing integration with the garden - which is often as important as the building itself in the overall scheme of things. This beautiful building is a furniture museum, providing visitors an insight into it's own culture and history. Would be amazing to go visit.

One of the things I absolutely must have in my home is a library. Or at least some substatial bookshelves. I love the look of walls covered entirely in books and add that to a cozy chair to curl up in and you have a place I will never want to leave!

This particular space, designed by Griffin Enright Architects for the Rustic Canyon residence in California, combines some serious bookshelves with a clean, modern lines and a modern feel. Not to mention a stellar view. (And who can go past an Eames chair?)

Right back when I was a kid I always used to try to design my dream house. I don't think I ever got very far, beyond a few key features like "castle tower" and "horse stables" or something. However, one of the things I always wanted was to have a river going beneath the house. Wouldn't that be amazing? So lo and behold when I come across an actual project with a home stretched across a stream and it's just as beautiful as I always imagined it to be!


Kaweah Falls is situated in Sequoia National Park, California. It integrates with the site so well... plants grow wherever they can find purchase, almost enveloping the house, and the water seems to tuck beneath the building in the same way it might flow beneath a rock, hollowed out from years of erosion. It's like it has always been there and just one day people stumbled across it and made it a home.

Mmm, a perfect spot for daydreaming. Or snoozing. Or just cuddling with someone special. Either way it's a clever (and useful!) design with a really inviting feel.

It's the little things that draws you to something, sometimes. I can't say I'm a huge fan of this overall building (The Ivy Hotel, Shanghai), but I love the gigantic circular doorways and the fragmented circular windows. Very nice.

Here's an interesting idea for a bit of interactive wall decor... Personally, I find I am most likely to use a diary when it's on the wall in front of me - this could be a really cool way to organise yourself!

hello!

I have been enjoying reading design, inspiration and architecture blogs for a while now, and I am finding it hard to keep track of all the wonderful stuff that there is out there!

Therefore, I figured I could start my own with my favourite picks from the blogosphere (and maybe elsewhere, who knows?)
