beautiful bathrooms

I enjoy contemplating the cool and unique things my dream home will have one day. Today I want to put together a few interesting baths, sinks and other bathroom accessories. So much more awesome than your plastic moulded tub and off-white sink!

How about a bathtub right out a science fiction movie?

Who says sinks have to be bowl-shaped? A gorgeous and different sort of sink.

Or if you'd prefer a more traditional sink, how about this beautiful cast iron one?

Or how about this amazing oversized stone bathtub! Want!

If that's too rustic for you, how about this amazing oyster bath? Beautiful and elegant.

From Trendir

Maybe throw in a wall of bubble-inspired tiles?

Or perhaps just a super-stylish shower!

And last but not least, a lovely sink that has a rock covering a spring of water, which is released simply by lifting the stone.

poetic chairs

Liking these chairs from Draga Obradovic a great deal. When furniture turns to art... with quirky sayings and pretty designs. Very nice.

vitrahaus

I'm quite impressed with this project by Herzog & de Meuron: your archetypal house shape extruded and stacked on top of each other, resulting in a series of intricate and interesting spaces as these shapes interact with each other.

pretty alternatives

Considering that sensitive and beautiful coral reefs are easily threatened by so many things - the carelessness of boats and divers, climate change, etc - we really should not be adding deliberate poaching to the list. While taking a little bit of coral to put in your aquarium at home might seem like an innocent idea, it really does just aid the destruction of these amazing natural environments.

So why not opt for some beautiful porcelain vessels that mimic natural forms instead? Saving Seas by Katherine Morley is one example of an artificial substitute that's just as beautiful (and much more sustainable!).

It's like sinking old ships to create artificial (yet equally rich and vibrant) undersea habitats.

yes please

I've never been a coffee drinker. I enjoy the smell of roasted beans, but for some reason I never quite got around to liking the taste.

So instead of a coffeemaker in my house I'll have to have one of these. Yum!

return to antiquity

Very cool. Bookbook is a MacBook cover that's a book. An old book. Things just go around in circles, don't they?

sun jar

Although a bit more expensive than a tealight in a jar, this rechargeable, solar-powered led light would look gorgeous all lit up in a row along a windowsil in the evening - and you wouldn't need to do an ounce of preparation beyond putting it down!

etsy dresses & coats

Normally, I'm pretty restrained when it comes to buying new clothes. I might admire something that's flashy and out-there but when it comes to putting down money I usually have to get pretty used to the idea of it first. Coats and dresses, however, are usually classic enough that I can't resist. So here are a few of my favourites of late.

spectacular spaces

Coming across the work of 1100 Architects I am amazed by the gorgeous details, sweeping spaces and strong lines. I had such a tough time picking just a few favourites! Definitely worth checking out the rest of their work.

Love the details in this staircase.

Did I mention I liked round doors? This was an old vault door. Awesome!

they don't love you like i love you

Oh, maps maps maps. I cannot get enough of these. One day I will have a gigantic wall world map where I can put little pins in where I've been and where I want to go...

Perhaps in the form of old classroom pull-down maps...

Maybe a few close-ups of favourite places... Not to mention a globe. Or two.

food for thought

"The chief lesson I have learned in a long life is that the only way to make a man trustworthy is to trust him; and the surest way to make him untrustworthy is to distrust him and show your distrust."- Henry L. Stimson

korean furniture museum

I have always been intrigued by the traditional architecture of asia, and the very exacting design principles behind them. Not to mention their amazing integration with the garden - which is often as important as the building itself in the overall scheme of things. This beautiful building is a furniture museum, providing visitors an insight into it's own culture and history. Would be amazing to go visit.

books books books

One of the things I absolutely must have in my home is a library. Or at least some substatial bookshelves. I love the look of walls covered entirely in books and add that to a cozy chair to curl up in and you have a place I will never want to leave!

This particular space, designed by Griffin Enright Architects for the Rustic Canyon residence in California, combines some serious bookshelves with a clean, modern lines and a modern feel. Not to mention a stellar view. (And who can go past an Eames chair?)

river flowing

Right back when I was a kid I always used to try to design my dream house. I don't think I ever got very far, beyond a few key features like "castle tower" and "horse stables" or something. However, one of the things I always wanted was to have a river going beneath the house. Wouldn't that be amazing? So lo and behold when I come across an actual project with a home stretched across a stream and it's just as beautiful as I always imagined it to be!

Kaweah Falls is situated in Sequoia National Park, California. It integrates with the site so well... plants grow wherever they can find purchase, almost enveloping the house, and the water seems to tuck beneath the building in the same way it might flow beneath a rock, hollowed out from years of erosion. It's like it has always been there and just one day people stumbled across it and made it a home.

dreams

Mmm, a perfect spot for daydreaming. Or snoozing. Or just cuddling with someone special. Either way it's a clever (and useful!) design with a really inviting feel.
